Fourth Day of Teaching
One of the most challenging things we have experienced since beginning teaching here in Belize is meeting the cultural needs of the students. We have had to put a lot of thought and time into planning and teaching culturally responsive and appropriate lessons. We have learned how to be flexible and differentiate for students to meet their needs both inside and outside of the classroom.
Differences between here and the United States are language, community involvement, and celebrations. We have listened and learned about many new languages that are native to Belize. The community is very involved within the school and the people of Belize celebrate their culture and history. These differences do not make us uncomfortable, but it does require us to learn and adjust to meet the community, school, and students needs.
